Traditional Bow Sleeves

Storage sleeves for traditional bows.

Wood, horn and laminate mark easily. A recurve or longbow that leans against a doorframe or rides loose in a case picks up a scuff a synthetic case will not stop.

Four models, sized by the bow's overall length

Sack-Ups has made traditional bow sleeves in two lengths and two finishes since long before this site existed. Model 501 and Model 502 are the gray knit, at 66 and 72 inches. Model 536 and Model 537 are the same sleeves in natural, undyed cotton, also at 66 and 72 inches. Sizing runs off the bow's overall length rather than draw weight or riser style, so a 66 inch recurve and a 66 inch longbow take the same sleeve. The retail pack shows what is actually inside it: a gray knit sack with a navy cuff at the opening, printed Traditional Bow Sack, The Original, Maximum Protection. The same silicone-treated cotton used across every Sack-Ups line does the work here, drawing moisture off the limb finish instead of sealing it against the wood the way a synthetic bow sock does.

A wood or laminate limb marks against anything hard

A fiberglass compound bow can shrug off a knock in a truck bed. A traditional limb, whether it is solid wood, bamboo core or a horn-and-sinew build, cannot. The soft knit keeps the finish off the hard edges of a case, a rack or another bow leaned against it, and the cotton pulls surface moisture away instead of holding it against the wood the way a sealed case does after a damp morning at the range. Choose 66 or 72 inches by the bow's overall length, gray or natural cotton by preference, and give it a little extra room if the length falls between the two.

Model 501 (66 in, gray) $15.48. Model 502 (72 in, gray) $16.93. Model 537 (72 in, natural cotton) $16.64.

The same cotton, a different limb

The material argument does not change from category to category. Cotton wicks moisture away from the surface it is protecting instead of trapping it there, and a silicone treatment adds a layer of resistance on top. It is the reasoning behind every firearm sack Sack-Ups has made since 1985, and it holds just as well against a wood riser as it does against a barrel. See the full case for cotton over synthetic before you choose a sleeve.

Traditional archery is one of six protection categories built on the same knitted cotton, alongside firearm storage, knife collections, rod and reel covers and woodworking tool covers. Compare every category to find the right fit for the rest of your gear.
