The material, not the company
Cotton is the layer that works
Every Sack-Up is knitted cotton, treated with an environmentally safe oil and silicone. That combination, natural fiber plus a real chemical treatment, is the whole argument for the product. This page explains why the cotton matters and what the silicone adds, in plain terms rather than as a packaging slogan.
How it actually works
Three things the cotton is doing
01
Wicks moisture
True cotton is a wicking fiber: its structure pulls moisture through the weave and off the surface it touches, the same principle that makes a cotton towel dry your hands instead of smearing the water around. Wrapped around a firearm or a tool, that means moisture drawn away from the metal and carried into the fabric, instead of sitting in a still film against the finish, which is exactly the condition that starts rust. A sealed synthetic sleeve does the opposite: it traps whatever moisture is already inside a closed safe against the metal, with nowhere for it to go.
02
Guards finishes
Every Sack-Up starts as cotton, but it does not stay untreated cotton. The knit is finished with an environmentally safe oil and silicone treatment before it ever reaches a customer, and that layer is what adds real corrosion resistance on top of the fabric's own wicking. The soft knit underneath does a second, more mechanical job: gear stacked in a safe or a cabinet rubs against itself and against the shelving every time the door opens, and it is that repeated contact, not one dramatic drop, that puts the first fine scratches into a blued finish or a stock.
03
Made for real life
None of this is engineered for a display case. Sack-Ups sleeves are American made for storage, for the trip in the truck bed or the back of a car, and for gear that stays in a family for decades rather than a piece bought once and never touched again. A sleeve that only works sitting still in a climate controlled room is not much use to somebody loading a rifle for a hunt or driving with a handgun in the glovebox. These are built for that second case, not the first.

One customer's account, not a manufacturer promise
“Four guns that were in Sack-Ups came out looking like they had never been near the fire. Thank you Sack-Ups for saving four very treasured old friends.”
Joel Gross · Sack-Ups customer stories
This is one customer's written account of guns stored in Sack-Ups coming through a house fire, quoted verbatim and attributed to him, not offered here as a performance guarantee from the company. See how the same sacks are sized for a rifle, a shotgun or a carbine on the firearm storage page.
