Covers for the Planes and Saws You Actually Reach For

Knitted cotton sleeves for block planes, bench planes, jointers and hand saws, sized to the tool and knit in green.

A sleeve cut to the tool, not a blanket wrap

A plane sole and a saw plate are precision surfaces, so Sack-Ups builds two separate families instead of one generic tool bag. Plane sacks run Model 544 at 7.5 inches for a small block plane up through Model 547 at 25 inches for a full jointer plane. Saw covers run Model 582 at 8 inches for a rip or gents saw up through Model 586, sized for anything from 14 to 16.5 inches, built for rip, cross cut, tenon and carcass saws. Every one is knit in green, finished with a black cuff, a gold woven Sack-Ups label and a black drawstring toggle, the same silicone-treated cotton described on our Why Cotton page.

Bare steel does not forgive a damp shop

A plane sole and a saw plate are bare, unfinished steel, and they will rust the first humid week they spend uncovered in a toolchest or on a shop shelf. That is the whole reason the drawstring cuff matters here: a hand tool goes in and out of its cover constantly through a project, not once a season like a stored firearm, so the sleeve has to cinch shut fast and hold without a buckle or a zipper catching on a plane's knob.

The same treatment described on Why Cotton wicks moisture off a plane sole or a saw plate instead of trapping it against the metal, so a tool can go straight from the sleeve back into a project without a wipe down first.
